Akaka Bill: Hawaiians Demand Akaka Bill Hearings in Hawaii
Leon Siu’s piece about the Akaka Bill recently appeared in the Hawai’i Reporter on August 3, 2010.
An excerpt:
We are contacting you to make you aware of broad opposition to S.1011, the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2009, otherwise known as the Akaka bill, throughout Hawai`i and to ask for your vote AGAINST this bill.
Regardless of what Hawai`i Senators Akaka and Inouye have told your office, the people of Hawai`i, including Native Hawaiians, do not support the Akaka bill and are demanding public hearings be held in Hawai`i before any vote occurs in Congress.
Over the years, poll after poll has shown the citizens of Hawai`i, both native and non-native to be overwhelmingly opposed to this bill.

Akaka Bill: Doc Hastings delivered a floor statement opposing H.R. 2314 the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2009 aka the Akaka Bill
Listen to Doc Hastings claim that the Akaka Bill is racist against Americans which is inaccurate. The Akaka Bill does not single out and target Americans based on their national origin.
Instead the Akaka Bill is used as a tool not only to try to strip Hawaiians and their legal heirs of their property rights, the Akaka Bill is also being used as a tool to single out and target Hawaiians based on their national origin, Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina.
Here is an example of their racism against Hawaiians:
However the only people singling out and targeting any people are those who are singling out and targeting Hawaiians based on their national origin (Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina) like Doc Hastings who speak ill of Hawaiians and lie about Hawaiians.
Ironically while the Akaka Bill is fundamentally flawed and is being used as a tool to say hateful things about Hawaiians Republicans and Hawaiians have one common denominator:
Republicans and Hawaiians do NOT want theAkaka Bill:
1. In the House, Republicans overwhelmingly voted against the Akaka Bill with 160 Republicans voting “Nay” and only 6 voted “Yea.” Click here to see the voting vote results in the House.
2. According to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA), they have 109,000 signatures for their Kau Inoa “Native Hawaiian” Registration and though they do not divulge their methodology they would need the majority of the signatures of Hawaiians plus 1 which means they need 200,532 signatures from approximately 401,062 Hawaiians/oiwi left in this world to get the majority. However they claim to only have 109,000 signatures which means that the Office of Hawaiian Affairs is STILL short of majority as in approximately 91,532 signatures short of majority. This figure also does not include Hawaiian citizens who are not oiwi.
The Akaka Bill is a racist bill not because it is racist against Americans or Haole people. Instead it is RACIST AGAINST HAWAIIANS where some people are singling out and targeting Hawaiians based on their NATIONALITY as in citizens of Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina otherwise known as the Hawaiian Kingdom. That is… some people are singling out and targeting Hawaiians based on their national origin.
Thus sometimes racism against Hawaiians rears its ugly head.
When some people discuss the Akaka Bill they LIE about Hawaiians.
Aue some people.
Republicans have struck down the Akaka Bill twice in the last 10 years. Republicans need to strike down the Akaka Bill once and for ALL.
While the Democratic party has failed the Hawaiian people and passed the House version of the Akaka Bill on February 23, 2010 with a vote of 245 to 164 which can be seen here
perhaps the Republican party will listen to our kupuna/Hawaiian elder Wiliama Waiohu of Lahaina Maui, listen to the will of the PEOPLE, and strike the Akaka Bill DOWN.
Akaka Bill: John Rossomando, www.NewsMax.com, and the Akaka Bill
Here is another racist statement about Hawaiians being made by someone at the www.NewsMax.com website:
“It establishes separate rights and separate governance solely based on race.â€
McClintock rejects supporters’ claims Native Hawaiians need their own separate government in compensation for the 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy by American businessmen and the subsequent 1898 annexation of the islands.
He said the merit for this argument disappeared in 1959 when Native Hawaiians joined their Anglo and Asian-American neighbors in voting for statehood by a 17-1 margin.
The bill would create what McClintock sees as a “separatist government quite separate from the government of the United States within the boundaries of the United States.â€
Newsmax - Racist Statements about Hawaiians - Akaka Bill
This is another example of some people using the Akaka Bill to single out and target Hawaiians based on their national origin, Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina, and smearing the Hawaiian people.
Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina also known as the Hawaiian Kingdom was created in 1810. It was never dissolved yet some people like to lie about Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina and its people.
To single out and target any group of people based on their national origin is racism. This should NEVER be tolerated.
Unfortunately this is another example of how some people are using the Akaka Bill as a tool to state racist things about Hawaiians based on their national origin and smearing Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina in the process.
Hopefully though their reasons for stalling the Akaka Bill twice before in the last 10 years differ from Hawaiians’ the Republican party can and should put an end to the Akaka Bill once and for all.
By doing so these people would stop using the Akaka Bill to make racist statements about Hawaiians based on their national origin, Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina.
Akaka Bill: Another Statement from Someone Who Uses the Akaka Bill to Single Out and Target Hawaiians Based on Their National Origin, Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina, While Discussing the Akaka Bill
Here is another racist statement about Hawaiians being made by someone at the Open Congress website:
How does s/he know that those people who were mean to him or her Hawaiian?
One is unable to tell based on phenotype.
Unfortunately this is another example of how some people are using the Akaka Bill as a tool to state racist things about Hawaiians based on their national origin.
Hopefully though their reasons for stalling the Akaka Bill twice before in the last 10 years differ from Hawaiians’ the Republican party can and should put an end to the Akaka Bill once and for all.

Hawaii Democrats do hold one trump card: Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska Republican, who’s a co-sponsor of the Akaka bill and represents the crucial 60th vote in the Senate.
The Alaska delegation has traditionally sided with Hawaii lawmakers on recognition issues, based on their own experience with Native Alaskans. But Murkowski may be rethinking her support for the Akaka bill, given Lingle’s switch and subsequent criticism. Two calls about the Akaka bill to a Murkowski spokesman were not returned.
Hopefully Senator Lisa Murkowski will shut down the Akaka Bill once and for ALL.
Akaka Bill: Groups like “Grassroot” Institute of Hawai’i Lacks Transparency When Discussing the Akaka Bill
At the website called www.AkakaBill.org the webmasters do not reveal who is responsible for writing about the Akaka Bill:
Akaka Bill
Instead they title their blog, “Learning about the Akaka Bill. How will it affect you?”
This is an inherent problem with the Akaka Bill. Not only does it violate the civil rights of Hawaiians, it is also used as a tool for some people to use to single out and target Hawaiians based on their origin, Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina.
In this case someone is using a blog anonymously to write some very disparaging remarks about Hawaiians due to their national origin.
