It is not over yet. The bill must still be passed by the Senate where it has run into roadblocks twice previously before it can go President Obama for his signature. He has explicitly stated that he will sign it.
Republicans staunchly oppose the Akaka Bill and should continue to do so though their reasons differ from many Hawaiians’ reasons.
