Akaka Bill: Groups like “Grassroot” Institute of Hawai’i Lacks Transparency When Discussing the Akaka Bill
At the website called www.AkakaBill.org the webmasters do not reveal who is responsible for writing about the Akaka Bill:
Akaka Bill
Instead they title their blog, “Learning about the Akaka Bill. How will it affect you?”
This is an inherent problem with the Akaka Bill. Not only does it violate the civil rights of Hawaiians, it is also used as a tool for some people to use to single out and target Hawaiians based on their origin, Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina.
In this case someone is using a blog anonymously to write some very disparaging remarks about Hawaiians due to their national origin.

“Grassroot” Institute of Hawai’i sponsored a debate about the Akaka Bill that was held in Honolulu on January 15, 2010. This is where with the exception of Leon Siu some racists had an opportunity to use speaking about the Akaka Bill as a platform to speak ill of the Hawaiian people singling out and targeting Hawaiians based on their national origin, Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina. This is video 3 of 3:

In video #2, the HIDDEN TRUTH in the Akaka Bill is exposed. Leon Siu, Henry Noa, and Kaleikoa Kaeo successfully stand up and defend our lahui. Their rebuttals are superb. The dangers we face today from the Akaka Bill and those who advocate its passage are no different than the dangers, perversions, and horrors Queen Lili’uokalani and her people faced on January 17, 1893. Right now with the Akaka Bill, in the likes of Sanford B. Dole, Lorrin Thurston and the rest of the Committee of Safety on that infamous day and thereafter we face the same trickery and greed. The faces and names have changed. The hewa (malicious, criminal) and pilau (rotting of the soul) are the same.
Note that instead of a study addressing the effects of the Akaka Bill on the civil rights of Hawaiians they paid for a study focusing on money. This shows what and who they value. That is, money.
However Hawaiians do NOT want the Akaka Bill. They also do not want people like those at the Grass Root Institute of Hawai’i to use it as a tool to write hate speech about Hawaiians based on their national origin.
This time utilizing a study focusing on money instead of on the effects the Akaka Bill would have on the civil rights of Hawaiians.
Of course the new president Jamie Story of the Grass Root Institute of Hawai’i is not from Hawai’i. Instead she is from Texas. Policy Analyst Pearl Hahn is from New Jersey and New Hampshire. It seems as though they are co-opting “grass root” to mean people who move into the community instead of people who have helped make the community what it is and make it better.
Thus “grass root” seems a bit deceptive so the funding of a study focusing on MONEY instead of on the lives of Hawaiians is not surprising.
