Akaka Bill: Grass Root Institute of Hawai’i Focuses on the Money Instead of On Civil Rights

The Grass Root Institute of Hawai’i sponsored a study called, “The Economic Impact of the Akaka Bill: Unintended Consequences for Hawai’i.”

Note that instead of a study addressing the effects of the Akaka Bill on the civil rights of Hawaiians they paid for a study focusing on money. This shows what and who they value. That is, money.

However Hawaiians do NOT want the Akaka Bill. They also do not want people  like those at the Grass Root Institute of Hawai’i to use it as a tool to write hate speech about Hawaiians based on their national origin.

This time utilizing a study focusing on money instead of on the effects the Akaka Bill would have on the civil rights of Hawaiians.

Of course the new president Jamie Story of the Grass Root Institute of Hawai’i is not from Hawai’i. Instead she is from Texas. Policy Analyst Pearl Hahn is from New Jersey and New Hampshire. It seems as though they are co-opting “grass root” to mean people who move into the community instead of people who have helped make the community what it is and make it better.

Thus “grass root” seems a bit deceptive so the funding of a study focusing on MONEY instead of on the lives of Hawaiians is not surprising.
